Milton-Freewater Humane Society, Inc.
ABOUT US.
Milton-Freewater Humane Society, Inc. has been active in the Walla
Walla Valley since 2002, primarily leading in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
of feral and stray cats. We have also adopted out close to 200
cats and a few dogs per year since 2005. We have gone by the name
PETS (Preventing Euthanasia Through Schooling), Cats Galore, and Pets
of Milton-Freewater, Inc. in the past, and became Milton-Freewater
Humane Society, Inc. in 2010.
We
are strongly No-Kill in philosophy and euthanize animals only when we
believe their quality of life is very poor and they cannot be
rehabilitated or their prognosis for recovery is very poor, based on
our veterinarian's opinion. We have always operated on a
volunteer basis and have no paid staff.
PROGRAMS
SPAY/NEUTER.
We currently operate TNR programs in Milton-Freewater, Helix and
Weston, Oregon. We offer low-cost spay/neuter for low-income pet
owners when funds are available and refer individuals to
other sources when we cannnot help them, as much as possible.
Whenever we know that low-cost spay/neuters are available in the area,
whether sponsored by our organization or not, we will put this
information on this webpage under "Events".
FOSTER
CARE ADOPTIONS. Our shelter became too much of a financial burden
and since March, 2010 adoptions will be going through foster homes
rather than a shelter. We are limited as to how many animals we can take in by available foster
homes.
We
adopt our our animals through Petco adoption events every third
Saturday and Sunday of the month, from 11 am to 5 pm. We will also
adopt out our animals at other sites in 2010 and will place these
events on our webpage under "Events". Our animals are normally
adopted out spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated (rabies, RCP,
Felv). We do not test our cats for Felv/FIV unless we have reason
to suspect a possible problem, and we encourage adoptors to have the
cats tested themselves to make sure they do not bring such diseases
home to the other cats in the household.
We
advertise our pets for adoption online through Petfinder.com,
Pets911.com, Adopt-a-Pet.com. We also have our animals
photos on this webpage under "Animals".
